If you don't measure, you don't know!Energy modelling your project in the design phase is the best way to assess whether your design will actually achieve the required performance outcomes.
Through the energy model we can assess what level of performance and comfort the design and specification will achieve. It will show where any weak points are to ensure these are fixed, but also where the specification may have gone overboard - do you need as much insulation in the roof, or can you use less and save money? Alongside this, the energy model allows us to consider the whole building holistically, rather than looking at individual R values in isolation. It will result in a far more balanced, lower energy, and more comfortable building, while potentially even saving you money - in most cases we find the modelling fee is more than covered by product savings when looking to achieve H1 compliance. |
The processWEL offers standalone energy model assessment and reporting for external designers and homeowners. This is suitable for new buildings, to assess the design, but also for existing buildings, as a tool to putting together a retrofit program.
Each project can be slightly different, however most will follow the same structure. Once engaged we require drawings and outline specifications for the project. If a CAD model is available this can help streamline the process. If it's an existing building we can undertake a site measure. We will produce a predictive energy model based on the specification and drawings provided. This process may highlight the need for thermal bridge models or hygrothermal assessments, these will be communicated to you at the time. We may also assess the design for coordination of ventilation systems, etc. Following this, we will work through the model and produce a series of recommendations on weak points, issues, and options for improvement. These will be collated in a report which will be issued to you, and a meeting to run through the recommendations is booked in. Once this information is absorbed, we can update the thermal model to show the impact of any final decisions. Should H1 compliance reporting be required we would then require the final drawings to produce the report for council. Get in touch to discuss your requirements. |
