WEL offers Homestar Design and Assessment services for stand alone homes, and multi-unit projects. The earlier the certification is considered in the design process the better - as energy and embodied carbon modelling are mandatory requirements of the rating system, the more developed a building design or site layout, the more changes may be required. Get in touch to discuss the process and your options! |
The processThe first step is to decide which star rating you would like to achieve. WEL will then produce the energy and carbon models, assess where the project is currently sitting and advise of any changes that may be required.
Once the star rating is finalised, we review the design against the relevant mandatory minimums to ensure we are meeting them. Following this we will walk you through which other elements of the project will need input, and which areas would be most appropriate to achieve the additional required points. Once this is all finalised the 'Design' rating is submitted to NZGBC for audit around the same time as the Building Consent application. We will respond to any RFIs from the auditor. During the construction process there are some key observation steps that are required depending on the star rating, before the 'Built' rating is summitted on completion of the project. Additional information on the Homestar process is available in the Homestar Design Guide. |
