Surrounded by mature trees, with a perforated screen completing the shelter from the road, The Copse sits on a semi-urban section on The Coromandel, minutes from the beach.
A simple wedge form accommodates 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a spacious kitchen, dining and living space, with an attached garage to store the ocean toys and equipment! StopDigging ground screws support the Formance Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) envelope; with energy modelling, a careful balance of cost and specification, and roof-top solar enabling the project to aim for Passivhaus Premium certification. The design creates a sheltered retreat in the trees, and replaces an existing dwelling which is being relocated for reuse. Patterned brick and perforated screening create a street presence, with low maintenance metal roofing and cladding sheltering cedar walls and soffits to the expansive covered deck. Internally, exposed rafters support the stained SIPs roof, with a palette of finishes that acknowledges the coastal location. |
