Thermal Bridge Modelling

Assessing heat loss and moisture risk

Thermal bridges are areas in the building fabric where heat flows faster than the surroundings. This may be a steel beam penetrating through a wall, an insulated slab edge, or a corner with a lot of timber in it.

Areas like these can result in several issues:
  • Heat loss, so higher bills
  • Cold spots, so discomfort
  • Condensation, so mould potential and damage

Assessing the risk of these during the design phase can avoid a lot of issues further down the line, when a junction or detail has already been build.

Modelling of some thermal bridges is also a requirement of Homestar, and Passive House.
